Study
What is a study permit?
A study permit is an official document issued by the Government of Canada, granting international students permission to study at designated learning institutions in Canada. In most cases, foreign nationals are required to obtain a study permit in order to pursue their studies in Canada.

Studying in Canada as a minor
In the province of Ontario, individuals under the age of 18 are considered “minor children.” The parents or legal guardians of minor children are required to demonstrate their commitment to providing the necessary care and support for the students throughout their stay in Canada.
Minor children under the age of 17 must either:
- Accompany their parent or legal guardian, or
- Have a designated custodian in Canada.
Who is a custodian?
A custodian is a responsible adult who is a Canadian citizen or permanent resident and is designated to provide care and support for the minor child.
While a custodian is not required for individuals aged 18 or older, it may be requested by an immigration officer on a case-by-case basis.
