On Friday, June 6, 2025, FH Education led students on a full-day academic and cultural exploration through downtown Toronto, combining university insights with historical immersion.
Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU) Campus Tour
Our day began at Toronto Metropolitan University (TMU), formerly Ryerson, located in the heart of the city. Guided by a 4th-year student ambassador, FH students toured the vibrant urban campus while learning about TMU’s signature programs that blend theory with practice.
TMU is especially known for:
- The Creative School: top-tier media and design education
- Ted Rogers School of Management: business programs aligned with industry
- Nursing and Health Sciences: emphasizing community impact and clinical skill
- Engineering & Architectural Science: fostering innovation and collaboration
- Fashion & Interior Design: globally recognized creativity and excellence
The real-world learning ethos of TMU impressed many students, sparking thoughts of future university life in a dynamic, city-centered environment.

Mackenzie House Museum – A Journey Back in Time
In the afternoon, we visited Mackenzie House, a beautifully preserved Victorian brick townhouse and once the residence of William Lyon Mackenzie, Toronto’s first mayor. Mackenzie was more than a civic leader — he was a journalist, publisher, and political reformer who fought for democratic rights, fair elections, and the voices of ordinary citizens.

Historic Print Shop Workshop
Students stepped into the 19th-century print room and tried their hands at traditional letterpress printing. Each student created their own keepsake: a line bearing their name on the final edition of the Toronto Daily. From inking to pressing, the manual process offered deep respect for the historical power of the printed word.

Dip Pen Letter Writing
We then tried the art of letter writing with authentic ink and dip pens. Each word required patience and precision, reminding us how communication once required care and craftsmanship.

Guided House Tour
Finally, students were guided through the residence — from kitchen to parlour to Mackenzie’s personal study — with vivid storytelling from museum staff. We gained a deeper appreciation for Mackenzie’s role in shaping early Toronto, and how his reformist ideals still echo in Canada’s democratic values today.

Learning Beyond the Classroom
This meaningful day connected the past and future, offering students a vivid understanding of Toronto’s history and an exciting glimpse into university life.
At FH Education, we are committed to holistic student development. While we uphold academic excellence, we also believe that real-world experiences, community learning, and cultural exploration are essential to nurturing well-rounded, globally minded individuals.
