A new course for Ontario students

Ontario high school students will soon have to take a technology or trade credit in order to graduate.

The Education Minister, Stephen Lecce has announced that as of September 2024, students entering Grade 9 will be required to take a course of “technological education credit”.

The goal of adding this new credit is to create new pathways for students to benefit from more hands-on learning experiences in classrooms. Therefore, they will  be able to graduate with a competitive advantage to start good jobs in STEM and the skilled trades.

In order to receive the Ontario Secondary School Diploma, students will be able to choose between a number of classes approved through the “technological education” curriculum. This curriculum includes a wide range of topics such as computer technology, communications, hospitality, construction, transportation, manufacturing.
